Another episode in the Bailey Flanigan drama unfolds in the Karen Kingsbury's latest work, Learning. Bailey finds life in New York filled with struggles and surprises. While giving her all to learn her role, she realizes both her shortcomings as a Broadway performer and as a Christian. Both challenge Bailey to grow in unexpected ways and make some tough decisions regarding her future and how she will live out her faith. On the upside, her deepening friendship with the Hollywood movie star keeps her guessing as to her true feelings for Cody.
Cody's off to a great season with his newly inspired football team and his relationship with Cheyenne helps him work through his past while enjoying his present. Personal struggles within the team push Cody to dig deeper within himself as a coach...to draw from his own personal experience and use that to encourage his team. Cody's finding new hope in his job and relationships. Will Cody find what he is looking for in a small town in Indiana or will his heart forever pine for a small town girl in New York City?
Luke and Ashley continue to learn to live with Luke's debilitating lung disease.
While there were still several plot lines going, book 2 in the Bailey Flanigan seemed easier to follow. Whether this was because I was "caught up" on all the family story lines or because the story stayed with the main characters better is hard to tell, but I found Learning an easier read than Leaving for those who have not followed the entire saga. Kingsbury again does a nice job weaving in scripture and important life lessons throughout the novel and keeps the reader intrigued as to the family dynamics that support the main
characters. If you are a Kingsbury reader, you will feel like you know the next chapter in the Flanigan family drama!
